Audrey Farley came to Australia with her family in 1967, and lived in Armadale and Byford.
It was not until retirement that she was able to fulfil her desire to paint. Armed with new brushes, and a set of watercolour paints, she took classes with well known watercolour artists. It was then she realized watercolour painting is not as easy as it looks. Never-the-less, she has had success with this medium, with sales and commissions in Australia and many countries abroad.
She joined the Armadale Society of Artists in 1988 and was a committee member, also secretary. On joining the Liddelow Homestead, she won a 1st and two 2nd certificates for her paintings.
Deciding to extend her knowledge of art, she took lessons, and attended workshops, with several well known artists using different mediums, such as oils, watercolours, and drawing.
Joining the Lesmurdie Arts & Crafts group, she was able to paint Australian wildlife on wooden plaques, in acrylics and found this type of painting most enjoyable.
At the present time she is painting with oil on board, a medium learnt from the accomplished local artist, Lois Ellison.
Audrey's advice to anyone who desires to take up art seriously, is to devote some time learning as much as they can. Over time you learn to appreciate the myriad of colours, shapes and details in nature that are often overlooked, but are so important in a painting. In 2011, Audrey won the Don Randall Art Award at the Armadale Society of Artists Annual Exhibition.
