A little History about myself: Catherine Kelley - born 1964

Where do you begin.....I have thought hard about this and it would be remise of me not to mention my shame when I was about 7 yrs old.  I  was very excited about a picture I had traced from a colouring-in book.  My mother was in rapture of this representation, it was my first true feeling of guilt for having copied it, so the facination with art and drawing began.  Of all things to be inspired by!!

I have always sketched, spell bound by shades and tones, negative versus positive space, with light at a premium.

Eyes are a great draw card for me.  They are so emotional and tell the story of your character just by looking into them.  All animals achieve this look - horses, dogs and cats.  I have always thought animals communicate with there eyes.  My whole life has been surrounded by animals - from my best friend to protector.

I lived in New Zealand for two years from the impresionable age of 14 to 16yr,s. Here I went to Fraser High School in Hamilton where I had a wonderful art teacher called Miss Middleton.  She was my inspiration, constantly motivating me to do my best, had I not been inspired by her I don't think I would be where I am today.

On return to Australia I completed an Art and Design course and discovered that I was quite good at Graphic design and Sculpture.  Since then I have played with all sorts of mediums including oil, pastel, acrylic however watercolour has inspired me the most.  I think it's the most difficult medium yet the most satisfying, in a way that it allows you as an artist to let go of your inhibitions.

For the last three years I have had a stall at the Kalamunda Market, here I sell my art along with Yvonne Lane, plus do animal portraiture.  We call ourselves the Village Painters.

I have to thank Pam White for encouraging me to let my creative side florish.  I am ready for the creative side of me to let loose and follow my heart,  Who knows where it will lead!!!

I hope you will get some of the pleasure I get from even being able to produce my art. It is just an never ending journey.  Plus it would be wonderful if you can be inspired to pick up your own art equipment be it what ever medium and produce work yourself.  There is no better satisfaction than to see your own work on a wall.

Currently myself and other artists have art displayed at the Art House in Kelmscott, which is a part of the Armadale Society of Artists (inc)  -    It is opened on Friday Saturday  from 10am to 3pm.  Hope to see you there one day.
